Stock market today: Asian shares mostly fall despite solid signs of U.S. growth

Asian shares are mostly lower despite upbeat news on the U.S. economy, with Japan’s benchmark falling after the latest data showed inflation has been slowing faster than expected. Benchmarks also fell in Hong Kong, but rose in Seoul, and was little changed in Shanghai. Markets were closed in Australia for a national holiday. On Wall Street, the S&P 500 rose 0.5%, setting another record high. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.6%. The Nasdaq gained 0.2%. IBM helped lead the market's gains, which was offset by a drop in Tesla stock. That came after the EV maker reported earnings and revenue that fell short of forecasts and warned of lower sales growth.
