Chance the Rapper unearthed an old video from 2012 of him being interviewed by future superstar, Lizzo.

Chance said he remembered the video “like it was yesterday” even though it was eight years ago, well before Lizzo hit the charts and even before Chance’s sophomore mixtape “Acid Rap” in 2013.

“Anybody recognize the woman interviewing me?? Give you a hint we’re playing the same Houston festival in a couple weeks and have the same number of GRAMMYs. Guys, this video is so dope to see,” Chance said. “Wow man. I’ve watched Lizzo work her ass off to become the biggest act in the world and it was nothing but her and her day 1 bestfriends’ hard work, and her own God given Talent. I am immensely proud of her and so inspired by her journey.”

The brief clip shows Lizzo complimenting Chance’s rapping style and his influences, including artists like Beirut and Waka Flocka, and in the video, he seems genuinely impressed by her musical knowledge.

Chance said on Instagram that the interview was for a small magazine in Minneapolis called GreenRoom that took place shortly after he had played his first headlining gig in the city. The full video from Dec. 6, 2012 still exists online, and you can watch it above.

Lizzo was nominated for eight Grammys in 2020 and won three, including for her song “Truth Hurts” and for her album “Cuz I Love You.” Chance in 2019 released his first major label album “The Big Day” and he’ll be making up for some cancelled shows including a festival in Houston at which he’ll share the bill with Lizzo.
