Just Do It? US Judge Rules On Avenatti's Motion To Delay Nike Extortion Trial

A US judge on Tuesday rejected Michael Avenatti’s request to delay his upcoming criminal trial in Manhattan.

Scheduled for January 21st, 2020, the trial concerns whether the celebrity lawyer tried to extort Nike Inc.

District Judge Paul Gardeph decided with federal prosecutors and Avenatti’s lawyers not to disturb the trial schedule.

According to Reuters, the judge said he did not believe the prosecutors had violated rules by doing a last-minute 'document dump.'

Judge Gardeph denied a motion by Avenatti to bar the prosecutors from using any evidence that they turned over since January 3rd.

However, the judge has not yet ruled on Avenatti's motion to bar prosecutors from introducing evidence about his finances.
