PM: Numbers of rough sleepers 'way too high'

Boris Johnson says that the number of people sleeping rough in England is "way too high." Official figures released on Thursday showed that that 4,266 people were sleeping rough on a single night in autumn 2019, 411 fewer than the previous year.

However, the total is still 2,498 higher than when the figures were first introduced in 2010 - an increase of 141%.

The prime minister was speaking on a visit to The Connection at St Martin's, a homelessness charity in central London.
