WAAY 31's Ashley Carter spoke with Parker about his retirement.

The hallway where his education career began.

<look live bob jones high school...it's the school robby parker taught history at for four years before moving up the ranks and eventually becoming the school's principal.

So it was only fitting we met here as he walked the halls one final time as the superintendent of madison city schools.

Pkg nats one final walk through the school superintendent robby parker says has a special place in his heart.

But tuesday was different and met with some company.

Nats people stopped for hugs and said their final goodbyes nats teachers not wanting him to leave teachers: "i don't like it at all, i hate it, it's sad."

But for parker this walk isn't a sad one.

Robby parker, retiring superintendent: "i don't know that i can retire from being the principal here or at one of our schools from superintendent where i'm removed it's not as hard."

Parker announced his retirement back in january.

A position he'd held since 20-17.

Even though he's grateful for the opportunity, his fondest memories are when he was interacting with the students.

Robby parker, retiring superintendent: "pick any tuesday in the 27 years or thursday or any random football game or any basketball game or pep rally or just walking into a science class where the kids are working and when they're dissecting something, that's the memories that i have everyday."

But he doesn't plan to stay too far away.

He says he will be at the graduations of every student in the district.

Nats / parker "i promised i'd be there for all of them past the pre-k, how old will i be?

I'll be about 70 i'll have to re-evaluate at that time."

Parker isn't worried about the future of the district...he says he's confident he's leaving it in good hands robby parker, retiring superintendent: "madison city schools won't just be okay with me leaving, they'll get better, they're going to keep getting better."

Ashley parker told me even though he will miss this district...he's excited for the new role as principal of whitesburg christian academy.
